I am writing to you today regarding a very important issue.

I’m writing to urge you to support a long-overdue Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for Pennsylvania’s retired public servants, especially those who retired before Act 9 of 2001 and have gone over two decades without any increase.
 
We are encouraged that Governor Shapiro has prioritized seniors in several areas, such as prescription affordability and property tax rebates. Still, retirees like us have not yet received full support for a COLA. That must change.
 
The House has already acted by passing HB 411 with bipartisan support. Senator Farry’s SB 721 offers a fiscally responsible solution, indexing modest COLAs to Pre-Act 9 retirees. These proposals represent less than 0.002% of the state budget — a minimal cost for a major impact.
 
In previous years, Pennsylvania’s school retirees and state retirees have been forgotten. Please don’t let us down again. We are asking for your voice, your support, and your leadership in urging the Governor and Senate leadership to make this COLA a reality in this year’s final budget.
