Carbon County Chapter Attends Annual Senior Expo
Recently, State Representative Doyle Heffley and State Senator John Yudichak invited all senior citizens from Carbon County to the annual Senior Expo—held annually at the Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall, in Jim Thorpe. The event featured more than 50 vendors that provided helpful, beneficial information for all seniors. It is intended to be a one-stop service for seniors and their families to learn of valuable services and resources in Carbon County. From medical professionals and health care providers to area volunteer groups and the services they provide, the event addressed not only vital information for seniors, but also provided opportunities to get information to more fun activities.
During this year’s event, the Carbon County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees manned a table which not only shared information about their chapter and the services they provide, but also handed out tote bags for attendees to collect all the information that was available from all of the vendors. They also handed out 2018 calendar bookmarks, day planners, personalized pencils, and notebooks. The chapter usually gets several inquiries from individuals who wish to join; and the event provides an opportunity to not only inform Carbon County seniors of who we are and what we do, but also inform local legislators and the media (area newspapers and television reporters are there) of our presence, our importance, and how we benefit the local communities.
