Welcome

We are proud to serve the retired school employees from Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Forest City, Montrose, Mountain View, Susquehanna County CTC, and Susquehanna Community School Districts. Our county is located in the Endless Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania along the New York border. The county takes it name from the North Branch of the Susquehanna River which first enters the Commonwealth along our northern border near Lanesboro.

Our three largest boroughs are Forest City, Montrose, and Susquehanna Depot, with Montrose being the County seat. The county has a population of approximately 42,000. Interstate 81 enters from the north in Susquehanna County, and at the Welcome Center you’ll find a memorial to fallen local soldiers of the Iraq War. Elk Mountain, elevation 2693 feet, is the highest point in eastern Pennsylvania and is home to the Elk Mountain Ski Center. Other points of interest include the Joseph Smith monument, The Center for Anti- Slavery Studies, one of the first Civil War memorials, the Starrucca Viaduct, and Salt Springs State Park. The Harford Fair is celebrating its 151st year this August. Galusha A. Grow, founder of the Homestead Act, David Wilmot, author of the Wilmot Proviso, George Catlin, artist of the frontier, Asa Packer, businessman and founder of Lehigh University, and Judge Jonathan Jasper Wright, the first black lawyer in Pennsylvania and the first African American United States Appellate Judge in South Carolina, are famous former residents of our county.

Our Chapter had its first meeting in October 1963 and has been officially been recognized by PASR since 1966. We continually support the efforts of the Women’s Resource Center, ring the bells for The Salvation Army and assist the Blueberry Festival in its fundraising for the Susquehanna County Library. We had our first RECREO trip to Radio City in December of 2007. Politically, candidates have responded enthusiastically to invitations to our fall meetings to meet and greet our members.
