Delaware County PASR Update
Approximately one hundred members and guests attended the Annual Spring Awards Luncheon organized by Helen Dougherty and held at Granite Farms Estates on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 The menu once again was surf and turf. Four Lauretta Woodson awards were announced. The Educational Support Committee chaired by John Ruth presented $4,000 scholarships each to Bridget Keenan from Sun Valley High School who plans to continue her education at Penn State University main campus College Park and Marc Williamson from Strath Haven High School who plans to continue his education at Stanford. Beverly McClung, a Garnet Valley Middle School teacher of English and Social Studies was presented with the Lauretta Woodson Award-Teacher ($100 plus plaque and medal) and Donna Barksdale, instructional Paraprofessional, Concord Elementary School was presented with the Lauretta Woodson Award- Professional Support Person.
Much to his surprise, Joe Hampel was recognized by Region 1 Director Benjamin Hynes who attended the luncheon. The Chapter was presented an Excellence in Youth Award as an exemplary role model in the community by John Daly. Pearl Klausner received recognition for her work as chair of the Social Service Members Benefits Honor Fund. Caroline Fedena reported on Recreo Activities. Service Award Medals were presented to numerous active members of the organization. Barbara Stauts was not present to receive her John Dillon PASR Service Award as her husband was recently released from the hospital.
Prior to the luncheon, the Educational Support Committee had awarded four $50 awards to participants in the Delaware County Science Fair.
Our chapter would be remiss not to mention the work done by Frank Monaghan for collecting canned goods at the luncheon and the continuous efforts of Harry Hill as he effortlessly works on our membership campaign.
Do you know a member in need?
The Social Service/Memorial
Honor Fund Committee is ready to help!
|
It is time to look
around and take stock of our friiends and fellow members in
an effort to assist those who may need our help during these
difficult times.
We all recognize that a COLA. though expected, has not yet been
determined, while cost of living expenses continue to rise.
Medical expenses and prescription drug costs are skyrocketing!
In many cases, insurance coverage is being limited and costs
are on the increase. As a Service Committee we are in a position
to offer help to any of our retirees who are struggling. The
information will remain confidential.
In order to identify those retirees who could use our services
we need your help. If you know a Retiree in need please call
Pearl Klausner at 610-789-0185. Our committee will respond to
your message.
