Planning for Your Retirement

Welcome

We know you are looking to the future. It may be a few months from now, or five or more years before you actually take that step and formally leave public school service. One thing is certain, though, you are thinking about your future plans.

We want to help introduce you to the world “after school” and call some important issues to your attention that you may want to consider in your planning. We who have experienced retirement feel that by sharing our “after school” experiences, we can help familiarize you with the common situations that are not normally covered in retirement planning seminars conducted by PSERS or other organizations.

We are retired public school employees joined together in an Association called the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR). There are more than 38,000 of us — retired teachers, administrators, and school support personnel living throughout Pennsylvania and across the Nation. We are joined together for one purpose — to help one another enjoy the retirements we earned from our years of service in public education.

To enjoy your “After School” experience more fully, you need to plan for it well in advance and think about much more than what pension option you’re going to select. Included in this packet are some of the other issues that you may want to consider. We hope you find the information helpful. If there are other issues on your mind that you don’t find addressed here, check out our website at www.pasr.org and/or contact your local PASR Retirement Planning volunteer.

On behalf of your already retired colleagues in PASR, our very best wishes for a successful conclusion to your public school service and transition to another career or retirement.
