Recently Lehigh Chapter and state headquarters joined forces to present a Post-Retirement Transitions Seminar at the Hamilton Family Restaurant in Allentown, PA. PASR mailed invitations to Lehigh County members that retired within the past five to ten years. Committee members Linda Bortz, Gail Edelman, Nadine Schoonover, Nancy Schultz, and Ruth Roeder teamed to select three topics of interest, invite appropriate presenters, secure a restaurant to hold the event, and plan the seminar agenda. Direct communication with PASR Communications Director Gene Robison led to the finalization of the event with a presentation date of May 29, 2008 and an attendance of about forty PASR interested members.

Seminar topics and presenters included the following: • Plan Your Financial Future –Jaison Jaitley, Financial Advisor, Wachovia Bank • Moving to a 55+ Community – Panelists Ruth Walter, Four Seasons, Macungie; Joan Failla, Willows of Hanover, Bethlehem; Jeff Tintle, Thrive Media, Macungie. • No Health Insurance – Now What? –Wanda Wiley, Health Options Program

The seminar stimulated lively discussion and many attendee questions and concerns, which in turn fueled positive interaction between the presenters and the attendees. A hearty complimentary breakfast and breaks between sessions allowed time for direct one-on-one communication and social interaction so vital to the success of the seminar. The informative seminar concluded with door prizes donated by local businesses and a promise from Lehigh Chapter to sponsor future small group events similar to this one.
