Jefferson County Chapter Activities .... looking back

Lauretta Woodson Award Presentation

At the chapter’s fall luncheon meeting in Brockway in October 2007 the Jefferson County Chapter of PASR honored teacher/principal Robert Cherubini and Judy Britten, an aide for handicapped children, with the Lauretta Woodson Award. Both recipients were nominated by the Brockway school district where they are employed.

This state-wide award, funded through a legacy from the estate of the late Lauretta Woodson, a retired teacher, recognizes outstanding school work by a professional and a school support staff member from PASR chapters throughout the state. The award is rotated between the county school districts and is coordinated by our Educational Support Committee headed by Betty Elza.

"Technology Savvy" Seminar was presented at the March 13 meeting

To enable its members to gain some “technology savvy,” the Jefferson County Chapter PASR held an informative seminar at Plyler’s Restaurant in Brookville on March 13. Marty McDonnell, a representative from Radio Shack in DuBois, was the guest speaker. He presented a discussion on topics of the upcoming change to digital television in 2009, types of cell phones, and GPS systems for use in traveling. Chairman Robert Barone of the Members’ Services and Benefits Committee arranged the breakfast seminar.

Chapter Activities .... and looking ahead

June 18 Bus trip to Cambridge Springs' Riverside Inn
Following the chapter’s successful bus trip for members last November to Oglebay in Wheeling, WV, our RECREO Committee has completed plans for an early summer bus trip to Cambridge Springs in Crawford County, and the Riverside Inn for a Dinner Theatre reservation at 12 noon. The bus route will pickup members in Punxsutawney and Brookville for the trip north on Wednesday, June 18. More details about reservations will be available in the spring Newsletter. Or call or e-mail Chair Roxie Miles (see our directory).
Chapter Project in support of our Military and their families
Through our Community Service Committee, the Jefferson County Chapter has answered the call to duty for its members to support Pennsylvanians serving in the military, or thier families. A project has been initiated to collect useful coupons from newspaper and magazine inserts that can be delivered to the Punxsutawney unit, the 856th Engineer Company of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Through the unit's Family Readiness Group the coupons are distributed to families and members on a monthly schedule. The Guard’s men and women are training and preparing for active duty to Iraq. The first collection of coupons has been delivered to the support group. The next collection will be in April for distribution in June.
