Our organization: PASR is an association of over 40,000 members who are all retired employees of the public schools of Pennsylvania. We are former teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses, aides, secretaries, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, maintenance staff - in short, anyone who is now receiving a pension from the Pennsylvania School Employees Retirement System.

We were officially begun in 1937 and currently have 74 local chapters. Most are found throughout the state of Pennsylvania which has been divided into twelve geographic regions within the state and another region to service Out-of-State members from Delaware, Florida, Maryland, South Carolina and West Virginia. . Our State Headquarters: Although chapters and regions are our grass roots units, the heart of our association is at the state level.  Here the elected officers and our headquarters staff direct the activities of PASR on a day to day basis.  It is at this level that policies are established to guide and direct the activities of the lower levels.  And it is from our headquarters in Mechanicsburg that significant support and assistance is given to our chapters and regions to help them better meet the needs of our members.

There is also much done at the state level to keep our membership well informed. Four times a year a newsletter is published and mailed to all our members, and twice a year members receive our After School magazine. From time to time other published bulletins are sent out as special needs arise. An example of these special bulletins is the legislative alerts that were sent out to volunteers in all of our regions during our active involvement in securing our last COLA.  This very website is also part of our state level efforts to keep members and prospective members abreast of our association's acitivites.

In additon to all of this, throughout the year committee chairmen from across the state go to our state headquarters in Mechanicsburg to work on matters pertaining to their respective committees. These meetings are an important part of the "two way" communications that exist between our state leadership and the grass roots units and which make PASR such an effective organization.

Dues at the state level are $45 per year or $500 for a Life Membership.
